  • How many murals are there?

At present, there are nearly 30 murals that have been commissioned by the Lompoc Mural Project. A new one is commissioned each year. They are primarily located in downtown Lompoc while some can be seen in other areas of the community. In fact, several murals have been created privately.
  • Who created the first mural?

The first mural, a painting of the flower industry, was created by Santa Monica artist Art Mortimer in 1990. The idea for the murals came two years earlier from two locals, Gene and Judy Stevens. They witnessed a mural project in a small town in British Columbia that was using art to revitalize its dying downtown.
